This simple label immediately reminds me of the movie the Thomas Crown Affair. Although when I hear the word "fugutive" I think of Harrison Ford, so this label has me thoroughly mixed up when it comes to movie associations! When I think of Thomas Crown, I don't think of the word fugitive...although I guess that's what he technically was. Criminals with means (money) seem less harmful...and murder is a little different than art theft! They're also kind of cool...I definitely could picture myself as an international art thief, complete with my own airplane and private island!
On to the label...The suit and hat without the face is pretty cool. The chartreuse background makes the figure pop off the label and this bottle stand out from the crowd. The suit/hat/green combination creates the illusion that there is a head there, even though it can't be seen. And the placard in front of the figure appears to be the prisoner number from a mugshot. All in all, a nice compilation. I love the label but can't comment on the wine just yet. I'll keep you posted.

Since the beginning of time, there's always been a differing of opinion, especially when it comes to man versus woman...the old "He said She said". This cool little label out of Australia has a nice, comfortable layout with text, colors, and characters that all nicely complement each other. At first I wasn't sure I liked the upside down man in blue but quickly realized he's right-side up when you're pouring the last drops! I guess once in a while the man does get the last laugh ;-)

Ok so the thought of my wine bottle staring back at me is pretty creepy. Eyeballs in general are pretty creepy when you look closely. Funny how that works considering how humans will often complement others on their beautiful eyes. I guess from some distance, eyes can be and oftentimes are beautiful...but when you get up close that definitely changes for me.
One of the goals of a wine label designer is to catch the attention of the buyer. I bet this does the trick really well. You know when you can feel someone staring at you? I imagine you'd get this feeling standing in the store perusing a rack of wine...this one must jump off the shelf. So for getting recognized in the store, I think it probably does pretty well. However, I wonder how many people shy away when the bottle stares back at them?! What do you think?
By the way, Intuicao is the Portugese word for intuition.

Blasted Church in the Okanagan Valley of Canada has some of the coolest labels we've seen. Back in the 1920's, a crew was tasked with dismantling a nearby church. In order to make their lives easier they detonated a few sticks of dynamite to help loosen the nails. Makes for a pretty cool story and a great name for the winery. The scenes and the characters are so rich in color and detail. They have the look of claymation figures and tell some really interesting stories. This one here depicts the crew setting off the explosives and most of their other labels are loosely connected to the same theme. Their website and other labels are very creative...marketing genius if you ask me. I highly recommend you pay them a visit.

This label is pretty cool not only for the name but for the horse-like logo with a strong sense of industry and machinery. My initial thought when I first saw this was that it in fact was a steel horse of some sort. It looks like it could just walk right out of the picture. But upon further research, it's actually a representation of the Port of Oakland (CA) waterfront container loading cranes which are nearby this city-based winery. The look of the winery name itself is interesting as well. You have the juxtaposition of the lowercase letters for the primary winery name but a smaller & thinner font in all caps for the word "cellars". It seems to work nicely together.

Well Hung Vineyard based in Charlottesville, VA must think pretty highly of themselves! This catchy phrase and image will certainly make you chuckle as you're enjoying a glass or bottle with a friend. I'm wondering if they've done any studies to determine if enjoying some Well Hung Wine increases your chances for some horizontal lambada. My gut instinct says it probably does. Does Well Hung outperform the average wine that doesn't have a provocative name? I think so. In any case, I have a feeling Well Hung drinkers enjoy a healthy sex life. Does size matter?..it must for our boys in Charlottesville!
